Ben Amsden

Ben Amsden (Associate Professor, Social Science/TESD) is a rural sociologist trained in the human dimensions of tourism and recreation, agriculture and food systems, historic preservation, and natural resource management. His work at PSU’s Center for Business and Community Partnerships has focused on community and industry engagement, intellectual asset management and technology transfer, program administration and evaluation, and strategic planning. With work experience in both industry and Higher Ed, Ben has developed classroom-based engagement with a wide array of partners including businesses, community members, elected officials, state and federal agencies, civic organizations, volunteers, and nonprofits. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses (across multiple departments) including Disaster Sociology, Intro to Travel and Tourism, Rural Landscapes, Research Methods, First Year Seminar, Environment and Society, and Decision-Making in Natural Resource Management.
