Karen Cangialosi

Keene State College

Dr. Karen Cangialosi is Professor of Biology and Open Education Faculty Fellow at Keene State College. She frequently does presentations and workshops about OER, Open Pedagogy and Open Science at higher education institutions across the U.S. and beyond. At KSC, Karen facilitates an Open pedagogy faculty learning community, and is co-leader of KSC Open, a Domain of One’s Own campus project. Karen spearheaded a movement to replace traditional textbooks with OER and other freely available resources for almost all KSC biology courses; and she incorporates methods of Open Pedagogy in all of her own courses. She is also an active collaborator with QUBES (Quantitative Undergraduate Biology Education and Synthesis) and works towards addressing challenges of sustainability of Biology OER and the incorporation of OEP (Open Educational Practices) in STEM. Because of her commitment to transparent, widely collaborative practices of scientific investigation designed to serve the public, she integrates the principles and practices of Open Science into her courses and the undergraduate Biology curriculum at KSC.  She also runs a youth education and coral reef monitoring program in the Turks and Caicos Islands contributing to an open international reef survey database.  Read more about Karen at her website: https://karencang.net/
